“Theta” seedling. Mother hazelnut shares Yamhill’s small compact form. Produces bountiful branch bending harvests of medium sized nuts of excellent flavour. Heavy pollen producer making it one of the preferred pollinators. Total resistance to EFB via Gasaway gene. Theta’s incompatibility alleles S5 & S15. Both alleles are expressed in flowers; only S10 is expressed in the pollen. The seed came from an isolated grove of Jefferson (1, 3) & Eta (11, 16); both have the OSU Gasaway’s gene. Chances of seedlings having the EFB resistant Gasaway gene is 75% and a better chance in having superior parent genetics, Not self fertile
