Geneva seedling. Mother hazelnut is a cross between American hazelnut “Rush” and European hazelnut “Red Lambert”. Bred in 1900’s it has not succumbed to EFB due to its EFB resistance from its Rush parent as American hazelnuts are immune to many strains of EFB. It also inherits its short bushy form. Produces abundant pollen, 1.0 gram kernels with very good flavour and good harvests of quality nuts. It is a very good pollinator. Intermediate resistance to bud mite. Geneva has incompatibility alleles S15& S23. Both alleles are expressed in flowers; only S15 is expressed in the pollen. The seed came from an isolated grove in Ontario with a diversity of cultivars hard pressed to find here in BC. Not self fertile
Mycorrhizae treated. Organically grown
