Lovely shrub species rose with purplish red foliage. Single reddish pink elongated petaled flower clusters appear only once a season but what a show! Very nice ornamental. One of the hardiest disease free roses one can find.

How to germinate Rosa rubrifolia seeds:
Soak seed 24 hours in warm water. Place seed in a baggie with moist sterile medium and warm stratify (keep warm at 20 C) for 30-60 days. Sow 6 mm deep, tamp soil. Keep moist, mulch and cold stratify for 90-120 days. Another method is to soak seed 24 hours, sow 6 mm deep, tamp soil, keep moist and wait 6-18 months from fall/winter sowing. Keep seedlings in the shade as intense light/sun is lethal. Seed might take 2 years to germinate so sow thinly so first year’s generation of seedlings won’t overcrowd the second generation.
