Description
PNW native. Delicate leafed member of the Liliacea family. At first glance it appears to be very similar to Prosartes hookeri (Hooker Fairybells) in form and size at first glance, but its kinked stems tell you it is not. Its single scarlet berries dangle in series along the stems. We hope to get flower pics next spring. I’ve only seen single plants, but since it does produce rhizomes, it might grow like Polygonatum (Solomon’s Seal) with just a few plants in a cluster vs the dense colonies formed by Prosartes.

How to germinate Streptopus amplexifolius seeds:
Soak seed 24-36 hours. Barely cover seed with humus rich medium, keep moist and don’t let seed freeze. Should germinate in a couple of weeks at 10C. In the garden, the seed germinates within weeks of hitting the ground. Does well in pots, just sow in humus rich free draining medium (in a deep pot) and barely cover seed. Sprouts readily when baggie sown.
