Description
A breath taking sessile type Trillium from the Pacific North West. Huge mottled leaves in different hues of green and purple. Thick dark red petals twist towards the sky. Can make large glorious clumps with time. Will self seed when happy. A treasure for woodland gardens or spots with dappled shade. I’ve never watered these during summer drought.

How to germinate Trillium kurabayashii seeds:
Dry seed. Soak 12-24 hours. You might want to remove the elaiosome by gently rubbing in a cloth. I’ve had very good germination when this wasn’t removed. Our spring sown Trillium seed typically germinates by late September. Sow seed 5mm deep with a thin layer of mulch. Sowing medium should be humus rich well draining and slightly acidic. Never let fall sprouting seedlings freeze. We keep our trillium pots in an unheated greenhouse over winter. This reduces bloom by a year or two. Never give the kids strong hot sun and poor dry soils. Prefers dappled shade and cool locations.
