Pacific Northwest native onion. A dear friend introduced me to this native species through her dried culinary herbs. I’ve loved it ever since. Good bye chives! Green tops have a strong but not over powering garlic-chive-onion taste perfect fresh and keeps its flavour when dried. Perfect for flavouring veggie dips, topping soups, stews, making your own take on garlic butter, and much more. I haven’t used the slender bulbs yet as we’re want to expand the plantation. A lovely plant with nodding ball of nectar filled pink starry flowers. Will spread via offsets and self seeds when happy. Prefers full or semi sun and average garden soil. Mine grow happily intermingled with rosemary and oregano. Deer resistant. Drought tolerant when established. excellent for permiculture.

How to germinate Allium cernuum seeds:
Soak seed 12 hours then cold stratify for 60 days. If you baggie sow, use a medium blend of moist silica sand and peat. Check the bag often to make sure the medium doesn’t dry out and transplant/sow immediately if you see sprouts. Sow thinly!. Give seedlings lots of strong indirect light and transplant out into the garden once the treat of frost has passed.
