Description
An Eastern North American understory tree. Adaptable to many soils and climates making it an ideal trouble-free street tree or as an ornamental. Its practical uses other than providing cool summer shade is its incredibly hard dense wood thus lends to its other common name of “ironwood”. In this listing, we use the common name ‘hop hornbeam’ for its hop like fruits. Nice bark that flakes off in long strips similar to Carya ovata (hickory). Butter yellow fall foliage. Gorgeous glowing dark apricot coloured dry bladder like fruits hang in hop like structures containing, what feels like billions, of irritating hairs. We are offering clean seed so you don’t have to suffer. Those of you who installed fiberglass insulation, without wearing a hazmat suit can understand, hence its other name “Itchy Tree”.
