Description
Aldara seedling. Its unique heritage makes it an extremely cold hardy hazelnut with superior nut quality for older regions. Also a great pollinator. Bred in Niagara-on-the Lake, Ontario from Quebec & Asian stock, the mother tree is highly resistant to multiple strains of EFB from its C americana parent. Mother tree is midsize with a nice spread for easy harvesting both by hand & mechanical. Incompatibility alleles S25 and S27.
A great addition to any orchardist wanting trees for improved pollination & nut production for heavy frost areas. Hazelnuts are a rich source of protein (16%), vitamin E, folate (2nd highest), B vitamins, & arginine. One of the 5 sacred foods in ancient China. Carbon dating shows mankind harvested hazelnuts for over 9000 years.
