Description

A lovely medium sized fast growing tree with delicate fernlike pinnate leaves that give dappled shade in winter. In late Spring, dense clusters of honey scented white sweet pea-like flowers hang in loose clusters. Loved by nectar seekers as the tree is alive with hummingbirds at this time. Black Locust honey is one of the best too. Coarse tan coloured bark has an interesting spiral twist along its straight trunk. Blooms at a young age (3-5yrs).  Nectar source for honeybees to create superior honey.

How to germinate Robinia pseudoacacia seeds:

Measure out one cup of hot tap water; pour into a bowl, wait one minute then add seeds. Let soak until cool and let sit for 24 hours. Seed should swell 2-3 times its original size. Sow seed and cover so the seed is 5 mm deep, tamp soil, keep moist. Mulch helps retain moisture. Optimum germination temp: 20 C. Days to germinate: 10-50. Sow thinly!
