Description
Lovely Eastern North American woodland perennial that can make large clumps when happy. Mid-green trifoliate leaves and elegant dark red flowers with near black seed capsule. White pollen provides quite a dramatic contrast. Much loved by our bumblebees and a curiosity to our hummingbirds attracted to their colour. Our patch covers the legs of tree peonies and Daphne. Easy to grow and undemanding.

How to germinate Trillium erectum seeds:
Stratifying seed. Pre-treated with our Skookum Grow seed soak solution. Our spring sown Trillium seed typically germinates by late September. Stored in moist medium, its best to add a little more moist medium and keep in the side compartment of your fridge at 2-4C until you are ready to sow. When you are, sow seed 5mm deep with a thin layer of mulch. Sowing medium should be humus rich well draining and slightly acidic. Never let fall sprouting seedlings freeze. We keep our trillium pots in an unheated greenhouse over the winters and bloom time can be reduced by a year or two. Never give the kids strong hot sun and poor dry soils. Prefers dappled shade and cool locations.
