Description
South African native. A subshrub with gorgeous red and yellow two toned tubular flowers that hang in loose trusses. Bright enough to attract your attention from yards away. Lovely glossy leaves similar to regular Fuchsia. Regrettably I did not notice any scent but its loaded with nectar; its a hummingbird magnet. The tubular flowers are too long for the tongues of bumble and honey bees Regardless, its a beauty.
With protection in a sheltered site, you can extend its hardiness zone to 5. Otherwise its hardy to zone 7 without protection. Takes on a shrub form in warm climates and a perennial in not so warm climates.
Here it receives morning sun only and lives at the base of a Magnolia kobus. No care is given in the form of water or mulch. Survived our -12C.
