Description

Fairly large berries for a wild shrub. I’ve been looking for Haida Gwaii blueberries for years and, voila!, a raven lead me to a grove of beauties. Largest shrub was over 2m in height over than in spread. Smallest berry bearing bush didn’t reach my knee. Larger oval leaf compared to their red huckleberry kin (V. parvifolium), attractive red twigs and growing in the same area, one can plant both as a berry hedge. When talking to my sister in Vancouver, her blueberry cultivars were in bloom where I was harvesting berries.  Had to slap my husbands hands to keep some for seed saving.
