How to germinate Erythronium grandiflorum seeds:
Soak seed 24 hours. Sow thinly at a 5mm depth. Use a well draining humus rich medium with some coarse sand mixed in. Cold stratify 16 weeks. Germinates at 10 C in a few weeks. Thread like seedling leaves resemble grass.Fall sown seed will start to germinate in early April. Seed can also be started in a resealable plastic bag with a moist paper towel and placed in the fridge if you’re pressed for space or season timing. When white root shoots visible, prepare seeding pot (one gallon size) Benefits from a think layer of fine bark mulch/leaf mold 4mm thick. Use one gallon or deep pots as bulb/roots migrate in the soil column. Shallow pots don’t allow bulbs to sink down when going dormant.
